Herbal based New drug design and development
is the mandate of Pharmacology Division at Regional Research
Laboratory, Jammu. The division has four sub-sections i.e. Biopharmaceutics,
Biochemistry, Specific Pharmacology and General pharmacology.
The Biopharmaceutics has the expertise in the areas of pharmacokinetics,
pharmacodynamics and stability study. The biochemicals markers
and assays for every activity are taken up by the biochemists.
The specific pharmacology has a set of bioactivities being carried.
The active products are studied for general pharmacological
profile in the General Pharmacology laboratory.
The
division of pharmacology is well equipped with modern infrastructure
facilities.
The plant based
products (extracts/fractions/pure principles) are subjected to battery
of well established in vitro as well as in vivo tests for their
Biopotential, efficacy and biosafety. The spectrum of bioactivities
is mainly focussed in following areas : Bioenhancer
and bioavailability
Hepatoprotective
Anticancer
Antidiabetic
Antiinflammatory & antiarthritis
Immunomodulatory
General pharmacological
Transgenic animals for pharmacogenomics
Maintenance and breeding of lab. animals
The
concept of bioenhancer was originally conceived by RRL, Jammu.
Primary monolayer cultures of rat hepatocytes models used for
screening for hepatoprotective has been successfully standardised
and extended to the evaluation of bioenhancers. For the testing
of hepatoprotective, antidiabetic, antiinflmmatory/ antiarthritis,
immunomodulatory potential and the general pharmacological profile
of the plant based products both in vivo and in vitro models are
employed. Anticancer testing laboratory is fabricated with Robotics
system for high throughput screening in the area.
A
GLP compliance animal house facility meet the day to day lab.
animals requirement of experimentation.
The
transgenic animals facility has recently been taken up for the
pharmacogenomics study. |
